beating suspension stereotypes: suspension for larger individuals
a workshop with Lubegirl (she/her) and Roux

Do you constantly find yourself tying folks taller than you? Is gravity getting you down when you're trying to lift someone into the air? Are you a bottom whose been told that because you're (insert excuse here) you can't be suspended? Come learn some ways to adapt your suspension that makes it easier on you and your bottom while perpetuating the idea that suspension can be for everyone.

Riggers should know both a suspension worthy chest(box tie/hands free) and lower body (waist/hip) harness, Bottoms should have an understanding of good vs bad pain. Natural and Synthetic ropes welcome in this class.

Lubegirl (she/her) and her bottom Roux (They/Them) are a tying pair from the NYC area. Bubbly, personable, and passionate about kink education on both sides of the slash, Lubegirl's goal is to break the stereotypes and myths of rope (particularly synthetic), one class at a time. Roux's goals have been to make a space for themself and others in the bottom community while helping tying pairs become more in tune and building trust with each other.

conscious power inequality, dominance, and submission
a demo/lecture with Lee Harrington (he/him)

power permeates our every interpersonal interaction, from how we interact with the grocery clerk to our kink in the bedroom, and there is a difference between unconscious and conscious power use. however, in a variety of alternative sexuality and BDSM populations, these concepts are eroticized, often glossing over the context where these consensual erotic power plays come from.

let’s examine where power arises unconsciously or through oppression in culture, various types of power exchange dynamics, and why people would want to engage in them (for an evening, a long-term connection or between lifetimes). this will include conscious and unconscious roles, bonding within relationships, and even destructive behaviors. power is power, but inequality is not inequity, so let us look at this together with eyes wide open.

the workshop will open by teaching the participants 1 - 2 intermediate level ties, followed by a short lecture + discussion centered around two questions:

  • can you see how these same building blocks compose other patterns you know yourself or have seen other people use?

  • imagine a new position in which you might want to restrain someone’s body. How might you build up a rope pattern in order to create this position?

the class concludes with free lab time for practice, continuing the discussion, and trying your hand at inventing a new pattern of bondage using the framework introduced.

desired object, forgotten object: objectification for Animists
a lecture with Lee Harrington (he/him)

in the erotically adventurous world, a lot of conversation has been batted about concerning the idea of objectification and its supposed partner humiliation. however, for those of us who believe objects have souls, things have value, and the earth itself is not something to be thrown away when we are done with it, how does this dynamic between human and human-object shift?

let’s discuss how our interactions with a human table change for those of us who look at tables as more than wood? can we apply our desire to create lasting relationships with our human-objects to creating lasting relationships with the non-human-objects in our world as well? in a world where everything has a soul, we will look at whether humiliation has a place in the language of objectification and dive into our own ethics while examining our objects of desire.
